چکیده
Carbonate-rich sandstones (samples 0708 and 0704) were collected from outcrop of the Gunflint Formation, Ontario, Canada (sample 0708: 48°29 ′24.4′′ N, 89°11′34.2′′ W; sample 0704: 48°29′24.6′′ N, 89°11′35.3′′ W). Samples contain 0.34 and 0.23wt% organic carbon. The estimated age for the Gunflint Formation is ca. 1.9 Ga (Fralick et al., 2002), and its metamorphic grade is considered to be sub-greenschist facies. Kerogen was extracted using standard method (Vandenbroucke, 2003). Organic solvent treatment was omitted because bitumen was present in the samples at only negligible levels. Elemental and isotopic analyses were performed on the Balzers QMG420 quadrupole mass spectrometer at Osaka University, Japan, following the method described by Yamamoto et al. (1998) and Pinti et al. (2007). The platinum-wrapped sample is heated for 30 minutes during each combustion step in the O2 atmosphere. Nitrogen contamination associated with the O2 gas is typically ~0.02 ng. The pressure of the O2 atmosphere during each analysis was 0.45Torr for sample 0708 and 0.85Torr for sample 0704. متن کاملNitrogen isotopic evolution of carbonaceous matter during metamorphism: Methodology and preliminary results
Nitrogen content and isotopic composition of carbonaceous-rich metasediments were determined by online and sealed-tube combustion using ultra-high vacuum line and static mass spectrometer adapted to analyse nitrogen nanomoles. Accurate measurements showed that nitrogen amount released by on-line combustion technique was underestimated to various extents. As a result, the nitrogen isotopic compo...
متن کاملInterstellar chemistry recorded in organic matter from primitive meteorites.
Organic matter in extraterrestrial materials has isotopic anomalies in hydrogen and nitrogen that suggest an origin in the presolar molecular cloud or perhaps in the protoplanetary disk. Interplanetary dust particles are generally regarded as the most primitive solar system matter available, in part because until recently they exhibited the most extreme isotope anomalies. However, we show that ...
متن کاملStable Carbon and Nitrogen Isotopic Composition of Benthic and Pelagic Organic Matter in Lakes of the McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica
The perennially ice-covered lakes in the McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica, are part of the coldest and driest ecosystem on earth. To understand lacustrine carbon and nitrogen cycling in this end-member ecosystem, and to define paleolimnological proxies for ice-covered lakes, we measured the stable carbon and nitrogen isotopic composition of particulate organic matter (POM) and benthic organic ma...
متن کاملNew Data on Carbon Isotopic Compositions of Some Ureilites
Introduction: The ureilites are an unusual class of carbon-rich, ultramafic, achondritic meteorites, which display both primitive and evolved characteristics. For example, their noble gases (which are carried largely in the diamond phase) display a planetary or fractionated signature, and their O isotopes retain a heterogeneity imparted from the solar nebula [1,2]. Paradoxically, though, the mi...
